HISTORY In 1969, the Yokohama Rubber Co., LTD enters the U.S. market with its first facility in Montebello, California and moved to Fullerton, California. Two years later, Yokohama doubles the size of its Fullerton warehouse to 450,000 square foot in 1988. On that same year, Yokohama enters into heavy truck tire manufacturing joint venture with General tires and Toyo Tires. The company, GTY tire is located in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Providing an important manufacturing facility in the U.S., Yokohama get hold of the Mohawk Rubber in 1989. In 1992, Yokohama and the Mohawk Rubber Comapany merge. This venture gives Yokohama the ability to produce automobile tires and 4x4 tires or light truck tires for sale in both the original equipment tire and replacement markets in the U.S. during the first phase expansion it reached its $80 million sales at Salem, Virginia plant. The Salem plant produces 70% of the passenger tires thank Yokohama sells in the US. Yokohama continues to expand its tire offering through the introduction of new Yokohama tires. |
